Tennis racket/lesson problem?

Tucker asked:

I am starting lessons on sunday with a family friend, who happens to be a state champion and own the local tennis club. The problem is that I’ve been using a beginner’s racquet and just recently demoed some racquets. I’m torn between the Pure Drive Roddick Plus and the O3 Hybrid Hornet. I won’t play well without a new racquet because the strings are WAY worn out and it’s just a cheap beginner’s racquet. I don’t want to play poorly on my first lesson with this guy.

What should I do?

Miranda L. asked:

I am kind of looking for a sport to do that would get me maybe a scholarship to a college. I’m already pretty good at tennis. I was wondering if private lessons give you a good shot to make varsity teams and stuff? Also, what are teh requirements for tennis to get scholarships (how good do you have to be)?

athleticgirl23 asked:

My friend and I were planning on taking tennis lessons for 3 weeks in July but her mom said she might no tbe able to do it. My VolleyBall coach is having a camp that’s 4 days that she wants me to go to. But they both start on July 7th and VolleyBall camp ends the same time that the Tennis lessons begin. So I don’t know which one to do? My mom says she doesn’t care which I do as long as I tell her. Although a adult friend might be able to teach me tennis so I could do VB camp. But which should I go to?

should I try out for tennis?

L asked:

I tried out last year(freshman year in high school)
I didn’t get in :(
my dad used to be really good soccer player
(dad is gone and never thought me how to play)
[I **** at both tennis and soccer but have found tennis to be somewhat easier]
(I like both sports but maybe I like tennis more)
I’m mexican and overweight
(when I tried out last year I was frustrated cause I was the only mexican trying out (not that I’m ****** or anything but…)and all the other people trying out were really skinny.
[I tried to take tennis lessons but they canceled them for reasons not specified + I realized that most of the people that
were going to take the lessons were little kids of age 11 or so
(I'm 16).
so should I do tennis?
[my doctor said that I needed to do a sport]
and for some reason this 2 seem like the reasonable ones
*also if you could tell me any ways of practicing tennis would be helpful but the thing is that it’s winter so it’s really cold and tryouts are in spring wich is in february.thx

what year do you think i can tryout for high school tennis team?

Tennis club membership or lessons?

Ryan asked:

I am in a tight situation, I have a few days to decide between lessons or membership at my tennis club, however:

my parents gave me $160 worth of lessons for christmas (4 lessons *hour and a half each*) This seems like a lot to me and in 6 hours I doubt I can even improve much. I know how to play tennis, I am 15 and will probably make varsity (didnt play last year though) but I can beat like all of the people at my school.

I just want to sharpen up my skills as I am rusty-but membership at the club is much more. Membership is $500/year, which is alot and I would have to help pay but I cant get a job atm. With the membership I could use the gym+courts for free (+ball machines) and play tournament play every friday for free. I dont know if I should save up for this and cancel my lessons and use that money towards membership-or should I use the lessons?

Is $160 for 4 group lessons to much? What should I do-if I save up I might not have enough money until my tennis season has started….But I dont want to waste 160 on some lessons that would barely help me?

tennisplaya asked:

I am 13 and I am still zat level. But I take a lot of lessons and I am #3 on the middle school team. I’m an 8th grader. I don’t have much power but I am very accurate and that is how I win. Currently I have a head liquedmetal racket. So I would prefer a Wilson because I have two Wilson bags. Thanks! If you have any questions or suggestions, email me. Other wise, just answer here. zcall27 asked:

i am currently giving tennis lessons for an older man and his 13 year old daughter and both are bigger out of shape people and i am not sure what drills to teach them.
i cant have them do most of the drills i use with my younger kids.
i don’t mean to be rude, but im just having a hard time figuring out what to do to accommodate these differences.
