Is it possible to succeed in tennis from small town America?

I’m using my Dad’s user id but I’m almost fourteen years old (female). I live in a small town and started playing tennis a couple years ago. I live with my father and my mother has zero involvement in my life by her own choice. We have no park and rec just high school, which I will start this summer with practices. It’s a class 3 school in sports in Missouri, so around 300-400 enrollment size. I started playing USTA tournaments last summer to give me match play experience and my goal back then was to just make Varsity all for years. Where at our eighth grade girl’s tennis meeting just yesterday for going out next year the coach said I’m a lock for the Varsity squad. The USTA tournaments I play in are a mix of novice and opens. It’s now where I can win some of my novice matches in the 14′s but Opens have been for quite sometime me getting whipped 6-0,6-0. I’m finally starting to find myself squeezing out games in these Opens 6-1,6-2 type of results.

What I’m wondering has anyone ever overcome the experience gap before or succeeded not coming from big cities, country club suburbs, etc.? Where I’m dealing with is players from Johnson County, KS (Top five wealthiest counties in the country). These are girls that have had racquet’s in their hands since practically diapers and have parents who will have them at racquet clubs 3 to 4 days per week. Also throw in traveling out of state to futures tournaments to go point chasing and trips to Junior Team Tennis national finals in Arizona. Why I write this isn’t from jealousy, I have a great Dad who drives me two hours one way into the city for a weekly lesson plus these tournaments on a almost every weekend basis. I also have my own ball machine and spend twenty hours a week spring through fall at our park courts (who no one uses in a hick town).

My private coach who I meet at the fanciest racquet club where a majority of these girls train. Actually thinks I can catch up to them in a couple more years or he may be blowing false hope at me to keep the dollars coming from my Dad. But, I’m smart enough to know a private coach is essential. I gave up clinics which seemed a waste of time cramming on to two courts with fifteen other kids for an hour. So, my training is on my own, a weekly one and a half hour lesson, a yearly week tennis camp at a DII university, and tournaments. These girls are so smug and many don’t have the decency to even walk off the court with you after the match, they just take off. I actually feel sorry for them, at the racquet club or tournaments you see a few whose pretentious parents are yelling at them over play sometimes driving them to tears. But, they’re also my motivation to improve hoping a couple years from now I’ll actually win my first set against them, not match, just a set. I believe I’ll succeed in high school since we’re in a farm town conference and noboby besides me plays USTA out of every high school in the league. Just wondering if anyone else out there may relate to this? And thanks for reading this long-winded post of mine.
To the one who found it necessary to call me a bigot. It sounds more like I struck a nerve with you and yours. I stated in my post its not from jealousy, I actually felt sorry for them. I also know many are on the expressway to burnout in the years to come with the pressure being placed on them.

I am done after about fifteen of these Opens always being the first to say “good luck” or “great shot” many times during a match with no courtesy returned. I’ve also tried in all my matches to make small talk to only get replies of snippy one worded answers or none at all. The most fun and relaxed atmosphere I typically run into is at Novice tournaments. Even though it’s still typical to get at least one of these experienced players in the bracket at these tourneys as well. I guess their parents find it necessary for them to play down to their skill level beating on a group of beginners. Although, you would probably refer to this as being a great competitor and in the zone,etc.. All of this wi

So I am new to tennis, I just want to play for the fun of it and because its a good workout. My bf and I have decided to get some help learning, he wants to go to the local tennis club because every week they have a tennis night it cost $15 and you get 1 hour of coaching and then you get to play with other people. I dont feel comfortable doing this because Im crap right now and im kind of embarassed. Theres another option, I want to go to tennis lessons at uni, it goes for 5 weeks for 1 hour a week and it cost $67.

In your opinion what do you think we should do? The tennis lessons at uni, or go to the tennis club?

I haven’t played tennis for a couple months, and I had a lesson yesterday. Afterwards, my legs hurt like crazy. It’s strange, because it’s not like I’m out of shape. I walk a few miles on my treadmill everyday. Is there any particular reason for this? And is there anything I can do to prevent muscle aches after playing?

Thanks!

I’m going to a tennis thing tomorrow, it’s kind of like lessons. If I like it I’ll be taking summer lessons. What should I wear to it? I have basketball shorts, short mesh shorts, Soffees, and some shorter knit ones. And should I wear a t shirt or tank top?
Also, what shoes should I wear? I have a pair of Asics with gel in the heels and then normal white tennis shoes.
