Mason asked:

I am a 13 year old boy, and just started getting into tennis. I really love it and am starting to get pretty good. I’ve never had lessons but will start them soon. It seems that I have natural talent though because I can beat more experienced and older players. Do you think if I started a rigorous training regimen now that I have a chance to ‘go pro’? And do you have any tips for my journey ( that would help me to turn pro)? Please answer and thanks in advance!!

How to become an assistant / J.V. high school tennis coach?

skyler v asked:

I am doing my student teaching this spring and I am trying to find a school where I can coach tennis and do my student teaching. I have not been able to find a job coaching though. I just want to be an assistant or j.v coach. In california where I live the job openings are on a website named edjoin.org. I have applied for some but nobody is contacting me or giving me interviews. When I cal or email to check the status of my application they never contact me back. I only had one interview at a school for a head j.v job but I did not get it. The coach told me he wanted somebody with more high school coaching experience.

Here is my playing background

I played #1 for my high school and was an all conference athlete. I then played 2 years at a community college where I was team captain, team MVP and an all conference athlete both years. I then transferred to an NAIA school that was top 20 in the country both years I played and I was an all conference athlete both years.

Here is my coaching background
For two years I was an assistant girls varsity coach for a high school in southern california where the team made it to the finals of CIF one year. I was an assistant for for a girls team in Kansas for two years as well. I was a graduate assistant coach for two years for a men’s/women’s team at a university while I completed my masters degree. I also have worked several Nike tennis camps and camps that universities hold during the summers and winters. I ran the city tennis classes for a city for a year and a half. I also work part time as a tennis instructor at a prive club and I am currently the director for a non-profit tennis organization that gives lesson to underprivileged youth.

My question is what do I need to do to make myself attractable to a high school coach. I have applied for about 10 jv/assistant jobs but I have only got one interview and the coach told me I did not have enough experience. I got certified by CIF the other day as a coach so I hope that will help. I also just got my CPR and First Aid certification. Does anybody have advice for me. For every application I do I turn in a resume, cover letter, and 3 letters of recommendation. I have a coaching portfolio but I do not know if that is appropriate when applying for an assistant or j.v. job. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

I’m 13 yrs old and I just started taking tennis lessons today (i had never played tennis b4)… however, most of the kids in my class are a lot younger than I am. I want to get better quickly so I can progress on to the next level with kids more my age! Any tips on how to get better at tennis quickly? Like how should I practice? I’m not near any tennis courts really… but I do have a raquet and tennis balls.

JESUS Is My Savior! asked:

I’m really interested in playing tennis seriously. I’m starting private lessons at the country club, and I was wondering how long do you think it would before I would be able to make a team? I can’t decide if I want to do a junior team at my neighborhood or the team at my high school? I definitely want to be really comfortable and confident with the game before I join a team though. What camps could help me out?
And when should I try out for a team, and which one should I try out for?

Tennis or Horseback riding?

bridgygirl asked:

I play tennis. I have been playing for maybe four years now, and I’m pretty good. However, I went to Colorado over the summer and went horseback riding multiple times. My friend from home rides and says that it is awesome, but my family has invested a lot of money into tennis. I can only horseback ride if I stop taking serious tennis lessons.
I LOVE horses and riding, but I love tennis! What should I choose?
Please post your answer AND why I should do this.
I’ve been told from many people that you can ride until the day you die.
Tennis costs 700 dollars for a once-a-week, 3 month session. I do twice a week sessions. I have no idea how much that costs.
