We are a week into tennis lessons and I have the intermediate group. We have already reviewed the basic strokes(forehand, backhand, volley, serve) and they are proficient in those. We did placement drills so they know how to hit crosscourt and down the line. I plan on doing some other things like a serve and volley drill and overhead drill, and maybe mix up some spins but within a week or two we’ll have used up the new stuff and I was hoping to come up with some more fun drills to work on specific aspects of the game instead of the usual feeding them tennis balls or having them play a match as they can do that on their own time. Any suggestions to liven up the lessons would be great. Thanks!

Have the kids play king of the court, but make it extreme: when you get out, you don’t get back in line, you instead go to another court w/ either a ball machine, or a coach, and you have to hit 10 points in a row before you get back in (nake the points hard to get)
Drill that never fails! : )
Try adding a little fitness and games. Although kids may not enjoy the fitness THAT much, i took a camp and the fitness is really good. Try starting 10 laps aroung the court, suicides( they aren’t That bad), sit-ups, pushups etc. Next, do different games that will allow the kids to use the things you taught them into the games themselves. One good game is BTFC. basically there are two sides of 3-4 people. Each side lines up on the middle of the baseline. You feed the ball then, each person keeps rallying one ball and goes to the back of the line. Make sure they have good form. You have 4 lives: BTFC. They are on their honor to not lie and winner is the one who stays alive the longest. HAVE FUN!
There is a very fun game called around the world. you send one 1/2 of the kids to one side of the court and the other 1/2 to the other. the kids start on the baseline. the coach starts by feeding the ball to the first peson in line on one side. then that person has to hit the ball over the net and run to the other side (always want to run to the right)(each person hits one ball each off of the other person) ex. You feed the ball to Ken Ken hits the ball over and in the coart and runs to the other side Ben is first in line on the other side he will hit Kens ball back over and in the coart Kelly is next in line after Ken but she misses the ball so she is now out and you feed the ball to the peson after Ben on the other line. and you keep playing like that if some one misses a shot they are out. when there are only two people left instead of running to the other side they kids drop their rackets and spin around in a circle 3 times pick up the racket and hit the ball. You can make the losers do some running. and the winner not. Another fun game is called “Ring Ring” (can be a singles or doubles game) the champs are on one side of the net with the coach and the rest are on the other side of the net. The coach feeds the ball (you can make them hit a certain shot they need to practice) they play out 1 point then go to the back of the line if they win the point they come up the next time they HAVE to say “Ring Ring” and if they win that they take the champs spot on the other side. and every one else loses there “Ring Ring”s also if you win the first point and lose the next time you are up you LOSE your “Ring Ring” The first team or person to 10 wins you also keep the points you win on the winning side ex. If you get 6 points then you lose you would still have 6 point when you go back over there.
Hope That Helps!
