Tennis players: What do you recommend for beginners?

tennis lessons
JESUS Is My Savior! asked:

I’m just starting my very first tennis lesson this upcoming week. I’m so excited, but at the same time I’m nervous that I’m going to mess up. I plan to work hard and take tennis seriously though. Any tips for not freaking out? And should I just wear a black lacoste t shirt and a white and black adidas skirt? What do you normally wear?

First have fun and relax, second try everything your coach teaches you and ask questions if you need help, and third wear whatever you will be comfortable in, but you will need “real” tennis shoes from a tennis shop.

Make sure your shirt is light enough and flexible enough to move in. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable in anything that will make you any hotter than you already will be.

As for not freaking out, you’ll be fine as long as you relax. Every player has to start somewhere at the beginning. Just listen to instructions and constantly practice and you’ll be fine. Tennis is a game of determination. You have to put your mind to it in order to get better.

    Good Luck!

honestly, listen to what your coach says about techniques and what not to do so you dont get any bad habits when it comes to serving, forehand, etc. he’s not gonna to push u hard since he noes that ur a beginner. wear something thats comfortable and loose fitting. my tips r to listen to him and try your best. then when u have some spare time. PRACTICE. good luck. :]

It’s best to wear white, because then you won’t get so hot; black absorbs the heat. Don’t be nervous, just enjoy playing and play as often as possible; i’d suggest joining a tennis club and also USTA.

Focus on hitting the ball and getting it over the net. Don’t freak out if you don’t hit a shot like Nadal or Federer. Just remember this is your first time and try your best, but don’t expect to hit a awesome shot if it’s your first time. If you really are confused about something, then just ask your coach and he/she will gladly help you through it. Also, if you’re that nervous, then ask your mom or dad to leave when you’re hitting if that makes you freak out. You should be relaxed, tennis is a fun and competitive sport. You cant get good at it overnight.

Just wear something that you like. A t-shirt is always fine, you don’t have to wear all those fancy fiber tennis shirts and stuff. But the shoes are important as they can help your foot avoid some injury.
