Will 8 – 1 hour tennis lessons be enough to?

tennis lessons
` Fr3Edom 2 be … <33 asked:

Will 8 – 1 hour classes be enough to learn how to play tennis and be good at it? Its going to be 2 people + instructor. The cost is around $250.
will my money be worth?
I want to lose tennis to shed some pounds so i need to learn how to play tennis right.
My age is 15
What if i start playing tennis w/o any experience right now untill july and then i will have experience before i go to the lessons. Or will that be bad?

summer is coming and after i possibly take those lessons in july i am willing to spend 1 -2 hours a day practicing tennis from july – august
will i improve that way??

Hey is tennis like squash except for the fact you are hitting to a wall instead of a partner?

    No, not even close.

But, a journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step so go for it. Tennis is a great sport and a lifetime sport. The $250 seems reasonable.

What you need to do, after you have basic skills (get the ball over the net 3-4 times and get your first serve in) is play tournaments. You don’t say how old you are, that would change some advice. But, play tournaments for sure.

EDIT: if you can afford it, the way to get started is:

-take individual lessons (1 x a week is usual)
-take group lessons (3-5 times a week)
-play as many tournaments as you can stand
-go to a sleep away camp (e.g. Newk’s in Texas – I’m not associated with Newk’s and don’t make a dime if you go – just an example)

    Good luck.

If the instructor really knows what he/she is talking about then sure. I’m assuming you’ve watched the game so you have a general idea from watching of what your swings are supposed to look like. Over the past few months I have really picked up tennis without any official lessons, just hitting with a more experienced friend and watching a ton of tennis on TV. The problem I still have is serving, but a true instructor will be able to help you with that I’m sure. I think about what eight one hour lessons would do for my game and I almost drool… so I’m sure if you really put time and effort into it you will at least get a good start from it. It’s all about practice still though, find a nice wall or a hitting partner and practice a lot if you actually want to get very good.

Those lessons (granted a good instructor) should teach you the foundations of the game and give you the right grip / swing to start playing. Unlike many other sports tennis really requires a ton of coaching and matches to really become great. Really comes down to your definition of “good.” After your lessons if you have some good natural athleticism you should be able to start playing a little.

8 days? well you could go like the whole summer and you would be decent but not good.
tennis, just like any other sport requires practice.
